Mater Private Network completes successful €520 million senior secured refinancing to strengthen its capital structure and support its next phase of growth
Mater Private Network (“MPN”), Ireland’s leading private hospital group backed by InfraVia, announces the successful completion of a €520 million long-term senior secured refinancing, including a new capex facility to support its continued growth and investment programme.
The new 7-year debt structure, provided by a pool of high-profile commercial banks and financial institutions, refinances the previous financing package raised in 2022 and provides an additional capex facility to support MPN’s continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and innovation, patient services and digital transformation.
Mater Private Network is Ireland’s leading private hospital group operating through a national network of 11 locations. With a long-standing reputation for medical excellence and innovation, MPN has developed recognised expertise in highly specialised areas including heart and vascular, cancer, spine and orthopaedics. MPN plays an essential role in the Irish healthcare system, where private healthcare represents a significant part of overall care delivery.
InfraVia invested in MPN in 2018 with the ambition to support the transformation of a group of high-performing healthcare assets into an integrated healthcare platform. Since then, MPN has significantly strengthened its position as a leading private healthcare provider in Ireland, supported by sustained investment in capacity, state-of-the-art medical infrastructure and digital transformation.
Over the past few years, MPN has expanded its infrastructure with new theatres, catheterization laboratories, robotic surgical systems and imaging capabilities. It has also advanced a major digital transformation programme with the roll-out of an Electronic Health Record system, supporting operational efficiency, clinical coordination and patient experience. This also allows enhancement of the patient-facing digital platform, allowing patients to increase control over their healthcare journey.
The refinancing was provided by a diversified group of lenders, comprising five commercial banks – AIB, Bank of Ireland, Intesa Sanpaolo, Nord/LB and Alpha Bank – alongside funds managed by two institutional infrastructure debt investors, BNP Paribas Asset Management and Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management. The transaction reflects continued lender appetite for core healthcare infrastructure assets and strong confidence in MPN’s unique positioning in Ireland and its ability to continue delivering its growth strategy.
Pauline Fiastre, Financing Director at InfraVia, said:
“Securing this refinancing with a diversified pool of leading banks and institutional infrastructure debt investors is a strong endorsement of Mater Private Network’s quality, resilience and long-term growth prospects. The new financing structure provides the flexibility and capacity required to support the company’s continued investment in high-quality patient care across Ireland and next phase of development.”
Bruno Candès, Partner at InfraVia, added:
“Since our investment in 2018, Mater Private Network has evolved into a more integrated, scaled and resilient healthcare platform. This refinancing marks an important milestone in its development journey and reflects InfraVia’s hands-on approach to supporting essential infrastructure businesses through long-term capital, operational focus and disciplined value creation.”
Daragh Kavanagh, CFO of Mater Private Network, commented:
“This refinancing provides Mater Private Network with a strong financing framework to continue investing in our people, facilities, technology and services. Our objective remains unchanged: to provide patients across Ireland with access to high-quality, innovative and coordinated care, while further strengthening our contribution to the Irish healthcare system.”
Mater Private was advised by Jefferies as exclusive debt adviser and Arthur Cox as legal counsel. Lenders were advised by Mason Hayes & Curran.
