Gruvaktiebolaget Viscaria is a Swedish mining company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm developing the Viscaria project in Kiruna, northern Sweden. Located within the Viscaria iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) belt, Viscaria is a fully permitted brownfield underground copper mine currently under construction. The project benefits from an established industrial ecosystem, direct rail access, readily available hydroelectric power and existing underground infrastructure.
At full production, Viscaria is expected to produce approximately 120,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year, corresponding to around 26,000 tonnes of contained copper for export to European smelters. Mining operations have started and concentrate production is expected to begin in 2028. The initial mine life is estimated at 17 years, with significant extension potential. The use of fossil-free hydropower and rail transport for the concentrate is expected to rank Viscaria among the copper mines with the lowest carbon footprints globally.
In June 2026, InfraVia, through its critical metals fund invested approximately SEK 420 million, or approximately EUR 38 million, for a 6.6% stake in the company as part of a SEK 2.4 billion capital increase, becoming Viscaria’s second-largest shareholder. This investment will support the development of a reliable and responsibly produced European copper supply, a metal that is essential to the energy and digital transitions.
